Benjamin Lay was a religious Quaker man who saw slavery as a “notorious sin (erge zonde)”. In 1737 he wrote a book to people who call themselves "pure and good Christians”. Although some Christians held slaves, no religious group was more against slavery than the so-called Quakers. Quaker tried to free African Americans and after many years their ideas became part of the laws of the United States of America.
