How do you form the present perfect?

Present Perfect

Form:

have/ has + past participle

past participle:

regular verbs: verb + ed         They have walked.

irregular verbs: 3rd row          He has gone. (to go, went, gone) 

Turn the following sentence into a negative sentence and a question.

They have spent a lot of money.

When do we use the present perfect?

Present Perfect

The present perfect is used:

1.     When something has happened in the past and it’s not                            important when it happened.

                               

                     She has given me a great idea.

Present Perfect

The present perfect is used:

2.     When something has just happened or is about to                             happen.

                              

                              I have just closed the window.
                              I haven’t had my breakfast yet.

The present perfect is used:

3.     When something started in the past and is still continuing.

                              

                    I have been here since eight o’clock this morning.

4.     When something happened in the past and you can still                 see  the result

                              

                    I have done my homework. Here it is.

Recently = expecting a response

FYNE       (For, Yet, Never, Ever)

JAS          (Just, Already, Since)

BAS         (Before, Always, So far)

RUS         (Recently, Until, Still)
