Wat weten jullie al over de Past Continuous?

When do we use the past simple?

- De past simple gebruiken we voor iets dan in het verleden is gebeurd (en afgelopen). 

- Het doet er nu niet meer toe.

Bijv:

- I watched a movie last night.

- We went to Spain in July.

David Beckham

David Beckham was a professional football player. Between 1992 and 2013, he played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and PSG . During this time, David won 19 major trophies. Beckham ended his career in football when he was 38 years old. 

& How do you form the past simple?

- Stam + ed

She called

Of, Onregelmatige werkwoorden: 2e rijtje!

- I saw (see-saw -seen)

- He told (tell-told-told)

Practice

- I (to watch) a movie last night.

- We (to go) to Spain in July.

- The police (to stop) me on my way home last night.

- Stevie (to pass) the test on irregular verbs.

- It was so cold, so I (to shut) the window.

Moving on to the past continuous.

When do we use the past continuous?

- De past continuous wordt gebruikt om duidelijk te maken dat iets een tijdje bezig was in het verleden.

Bijv.: 

- I was watching TV.

- We were driving to Glasgow.

& how do we form the past continuous?

De past continuous bestaat uit:

- Was/were + stam van het werkwoord + -ing.

He/she/it/I was reading a book

We/they/you were listening to the new Kanye West album.

Practice

- What ....you ...... (to do) last weekend?

- Last weekend I ............(to run), when I bumped into Mario Gotze.

- It ...........(to rain) when I got up.

Past continuous & past simple

Often used together:

f.e.: It was raining when I got up.

Practice:

How fast ............. (you / drive) when the accident ..........(to happen)?

Time for a game.

Are you a good witness?
