Vergrotende trap = Comparative (it compares two things) = +
Overtreffende trap = Superlative (something is superior) = ++
+ --> ...-er
++ -->  the ...-est

cool --> cooler --> the coolest
kind --> kinder --> the kindest

"Kate is funnier than Mike."

Zeggen dat één ding meer is dan iets anders: the + superlative
"This is the saddest movie I've ever seen."
