2. Heim ins Reich: Ethnic Germans have to live in Germany.

Allies are needed

• The Axis Powers:  Germany, Italy and Japan
• 1939: Hitler signed a non-aggression pact with Stalin...

...Which he breaks in 1941.

Hitler used conscription, arms factories, etc. to prepare for war. Why was this against the Treaty of Versailles?

Appeasement

• Great Brittain and France allowed Hitler to expand German territory: Appeasement Policy 
• This way Hitler got:

1. The Rhineland (1936)
2.  Austria (1938)       der Anschluss
3. Sudetenland (1938 at the Munich Conference)

Why did Great Brittain and France allow Hitler to expand German territory?

Official start of the war

• The Appeasement Policy stops when Germany invades Poland in 1939.
• Great Brittain and France declare war on Germany.
• World War II begins.
