History of Learning Disabilities

Characteristics of Children with Learning Disabilities
Learning disabled children exhibit a wide range of academic, personal, and social qualities. They could be "double extraordinary" (having both learning disabilities and unique gifts and talents).
Students with learning difficulties have trouble processing information, which can cause issues in various developmental areas.

Causes of Learning Disabilities
Some learning problems appear to "run in families," implying a hereditary component.
Other learning problems may be caused by environmental factors altering the brain's anatomy.
Researchers have identified structurally distinct brain parts in children with certain LD, but these are poorly understood.
There is no single cause of LD, and a combination of variables is most likely at work.
