Slide 9 - Mind map

Every fairytale has a few elements:
  • It starts with: 'once upon a time'
  • Archetypes: A hero, a villain, a witch, a fairy, stepmother, king...
  • A quest/task/desire
  • A conflict
  • A moral lesson
  • There is an element of magic/a transformation

Slide 10 - Slide

But there is more:
  • A fairytale is always fiction (land we do not know, time we do not know)
  • The lead character gets help through a magical object, a sidekick, or even a villain
  • the number 3 (three fairies, three tasks, three brothers)
  • Written in past tense

Most fairytales follow the same pattern.
