Er zijn ook uncountable nouns die meestal in het meervoud staan. Bij deze woorden gebruik je een werkwoord dat in het meervoud staat.

Soms gebruiken we een bijvoeglijk naamwoord als een zelfstandig naamwoord om een hele groep aan te duiden. Ook hier gebruik je een werkwoord dat in het meervoud staat. 

De blinden ⮕ The blind rely on guide dogs for daily navigation.

De rijken ⮕ The rich often face challenges associated with wealth.

De armen ⮕ The poor struggle for basic needs in difficult circumstances.

De gewonden ⮕The injured / wounded were aided by several doctors. 

De blinden gebruiken honden om te navigeren.

De rijken investeren in huizen en auto's.

De armen hebben hulp nodig.

De gewonden hebben medische aandacht nodig.

UNCOUNTABLES

Woorden die een groep aanduiden noemen we group nouns. Bij een deel van deze woorden gebruik je een werkwoord dat in het enkelvoud staat. Het is van belang dat je deze lijst uit je hoofd leert. 

Op de volgende slide staat de woordenlijst. Daarna volgt een andere slide over group nouns waarbij je een werkwoord in het meervoud moet gebruiken. Na die slide volgen er enkele oefeningen.

Sommige uncountable nouns eindigen op -s en lijken daarom op een countable in het meervoud. Maar let op: je gebruikt hier een werkwoord dat in het enkelvoud staat.

economie ⮕ Economics is a subject I really enjoy. 

wiskunde ⮕ Mathematics is an important subject. 

natuurkunde ⮕ Physics was the hardest part of this course.
