Present Perfect
  •  Subject + form of "to have" + past participle
  • I have walked
  • She has walked
  • The verb "to have" is always in the present tense!
  • Begonnen in het verleden nog steeds bezig
  • Nadruk op het resultaat

  •  Subject + past form of to have + past participle
  • Onderwerp + verleden vorm van "to have" + voltooid deelwoord
  • I had walked
  • I hadn't seen her
  • She had never been to Scotland

Past Perfect: When to use?
  •  Als de ene handeling afgelopen was toen de andere begon:
  • When he got to the gate, the plane had taken off.
  • Als op een bepaald moment in het verleden een handeling of toestand al een tijd duurde.
  • When I started my studies, I had worked in a bar for two years.
  • Conditionals: If they had left earlier, they might have caught the plane
  • Indirect speech: He told me that he hadn't seen her.

  •  Past simple: Als iets in het verleden is gebeurd
  • Yesterday, I walked to school
  • Present perfect: Begonnen in het verleden en nu nog steeds bezig.
  • I have lived here since 2012
  • Past perfect: twee losse gebeurtenissen in het verleden die je aan elkaar verbindt.
  • I watched TV after I had done my homework.
  • They had known each other for 6 years when they got married.
