Slide 1 - Slide

                       Lesson goals:
- Explain how a fuel cell works.

- Explain what osmotic power is.

Slide 2 - Slide

Fuel cells
  • Generates electricity from
       fuel (hydrogen/alcohol)
  • It does not contain any moving parts. It looks like a battery but it it never runs out of charge.
  • Fuel cell + electromotor = power a car
  • Hydrogen + oxygen = steam + electricity
THEREFORE FUEL CELLS ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Slide 3 - Slide

OSMOTIC POWER (BLUE ENERGY)
  • It is created by using the difference in salinity (salt concentration)
  • A filter splits up + and - ions in the salt water - thereby creating a potential difference
  • Curently it is only done in
       laboratories
It is a clean source of energy

Slide 10 - Slide

Conclusion:
  • Fuel cells make electricity from
        hydrogen or alcohol.
  • There are no moving particles in a fuel cell.
  • It works like a battery.
  • Blue energy is energy generated due to the difference in salinity between salt and fresh water.
