Consequentialism/Utilitarianism
Deontology/ Categorical reasoning
Locates morality in the consequences of an act.
Locates morality in the act itself.
The right thing/moral thing to do depends on the consequences of your action.
The right thing/moral thing depends on certain duties and rights.

Slide 11 - Slide

Deontology (Categorical Reasoning)
Emphasis on the act itself, instead of on the consequenses.
There are absolute principles of what is right and wrong.
We have duties and rights. Once recognized, duties are absolute, no matter what the situation. (Example: It is always wrong to kill.)
Something that is bad is according to a deontologist always bad, even it the outcome would be good.

Think about Amnesty International for human rights.
