What is it? When do we use it?

Grammar: Present Perfect
Dutch: voltooid tegenwoordige tijd
Rule: subject + have/has + past participle
                                * have: I, you, we, they
                                * has: he, she, it
Past participle = voltooid deelwoord
  • regular verbs: ww+ed
  • irregular verbs: laatste rijtje

  • something happened in the past and is still important                  (link between past and present)

I can't get in the house. I've lost my keys.
Teresa isn't at home. I think she has gone shopping.

can, could, should, must, have to, to be able to

General rule for negations, add not / n't  behind the modal
  • "We couldn't find you anywhere!"
  • "You cannot tell her yet."
  • "He isn't able to attend."

EXEPTION: modal verb "to have"                   to do + not/n't + have
  • "You don't have to come, if you don't want to."
