The present simple tense is used to describe general truths, habits, and regular actions.

To form the past simple, we usually add '-ed' to the base form of regular verbs.

There are some exceptions when we use the past simple.
If the verb ends in
-e
, you add

If the verb ends in one vowel (klinker) + one consonant (medeklinker), you double the consonant and add
-ed
Stop -> Stopped
If the verb ends in a consonant +
-y
, you change the
-y

-ied

Irregular verbs have different forms in the past simple tense.
