Why do we form groups?

Group formation:                               

Example 1:

A class of students know eachother but they still view them selves as indepent from eachother. There is not yet a social structure.

Fase 2: storming.

Still individualistic but the roots of teamwork are 

being placed.

A class of students don't know eachother. This is there first week of meeting eachother.

The group doesnt exist yet, students will view the

others as strangers.

The class is well integrated, there is social cohesion and people work together well. The year is almost over so the students won't see eachother (for a time) after this fase.

Fase 5: Adjourning

The group had social cohesion and worked together

but they have to split up and there is a process of 

transition to the lose of the group.
