Verleden tijd: afgesloten gebeurtenissen; meestal met tijdsbepaling erbij
Vorm: werkwoord + -ed of onregelmatige werkwoorden
Gebruik: staat er in de zin een tijdsbepaling in het verleden (yesterday, three weeks ago, when I was five, etc.) dan gebruik je de simple past. Let bij langere teksten ook op context; er hoeft niet in elke zin een tijdsbepaling te staan, maar als het allemaal in het verleden was gebruik je ook de simple past

Vragen en ontkenningen maken
In een vraag of ontkenning heb je in het Engels altijd twee werkwoorden nodig (uitzondering: zinnen met een vorm van 'to be')
De simple past bestaat maar uit 1 werkwoord, je moet hier dus nog iets aan toevoegen.
Om vragen te maken gebruik je 'did'
Om ontkenningen te maken gebruik je 'did not' (didn't)
Na 'did(n't)' komt alleen het werkwoord, zonder vervoegingen

Vragen en ontkenningen maken
Aangezien de present perfect al uit een hulp- en hoofdwerkwoord bestaat, heb je niets extra's nodig om een vraag of ontkenning te maken.
Vragen: zet 'have/has' vooraan in de zin, de rest blijft hetzelfde
Ontkenningen: gebruik 'haven't/hasn't', de rest blijft hetzelfde
