Chinees Nieuwjaar is dit jaar op: woensdag 29 januari

In tegenstelling tot het Westerse Nieuwjaar, dat altijd op 1 januari is, verschilt de datum van het Chinees Nieuwjaar steeds.

Hoe dit komt?

Chinees Nieuwjaar is op de tweede nieuwe maan na de zonnewende van 21 december. De maankalender is dus de basis! In het Engels heet het daarom ook wel 'Lunar New Year.' 

农历新年（nónglì xīnnián）

春 chūn  betekent 

'lente'   

节  jié  kan je vertalen als 'festival' of 'feest'
