Negative questions (ontkennende vragen) gebruik je als je iets niet zeker weet, of omdat je je ergens aan ergert of over verbaast.
Isn't Jamal your brother?
Weren't you going to stop smoking?
Didn't Dad tell you he was going to be late?

Als er een vorm van to be (am, is, are, was, were), have got, has got of een modal (hulpwerkwoord) als can in de zin staat:
-begin je daar de zin mee,
-zet je er n't achter,
-zet je het onderwerp erachter,
-en dan de rest van de zin.

-begin je daar de zin mee,
-zet je het onderwerp erachter,
-dan het hele werkwoord (dus zonder -s of -ed),
-en dan de rest van de zin.
