What are some of the tips I have given you that you can use during a listening exam?

Kijk/luisteren VWO Engels

• globaal luisteren of kijken: hier mag je de vragen nog niet lezen. Je kijk/luistert naar het fragment, maakt aantekeningen en dan beantwoord je de vragen. 
• voorspellend luisteren: hier moet je het juiste woord invullen op de plaats van de pieptoon. 
• selectief luisteren : hier mag je de vragen al wel lezen, dan luister je naar het fragment en vervolgens beantwoord je de vragen 

listening/watching tips

• underline the important words in the answers that indicate what the answer is really about. 
• If you doubt between two answers: ask yourself which answer was mostly present in the fragment? What is it really about and which aspects were less relevant. 
• look for synonyms. Sometimes a synonym of a word in the answers is used in the fragment  

How to practice? 

• Practice listening at B2/C1 level in Holmwoods
• Practice listening/watching in Woots. You can also practice at skilllevel 1-3. 
• Watch a lot of Netflix series like: The Crown (without subtitles or with English subtitles), Planet Earth. Practice with English accents that you find difficult. 

How to practice? 

• Watch BBC News, Al Jazeera, CNN 
• Listen to BBC radio/ a podcast on Spotify ( The Daily - The New York Times) / audiobooks (Audible, Storytel, Nextory) -> Sherlock Holmes series, Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts series, Jane Austen books  or anything else you find interesting

What is the correct order for opening a formal letter?

1. addressee's address - your own address - date
2. addressee's address- date- your address

How do you indicate the date?

Frequent mistakes in writing

Rewrite the sentences.

1.  How many lessons did you take for your exam, did you get your license in one time. (3)
2. How many lessons have you got for your driving test? (1)
3. In the Netherlands, it is very hard to get it because they make it every year harder and more expensive. (1)
4. It’s very important to know the trafficrules before you actualy go out there with a car. (2)
5. In The Netherlands there is a difficult situation with walkers and bike riders, because if you have a exident on a road with someone who is not in a car, almost every time it’s your fals. (5)
6. Enjoy your time with your license, talk to you later, bye bye. (2)

Peer feedback 

 1. Keep in mind the wordcount and proofread it after writing.

2. A classmate has to proofread it too (grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, strengths/improvements)

3. Discuss the rubric and the strengths/improvements in the letter. 

Task 2 

You missed an international flight due to a problem at the airport.

Write a letter to the airline. 

In your letter:

-Describe what happened that caused you to miss your flight.

-Explain how missing your flight impacted you.

-Clearly state what you would like the airline to do.

Write at least 150 words. You do not need to include addresses this time.

De docent controleert in de slotfase van de les of de leerdoelen door alle leerlingen behaald zijn en plaatst de les in de context van de betreffende Unit. De docent evalueert samen met de leerlingen het leren en het gedrag op basis van het Learner Profile en de ATL-skills. Dit wordt vastgelegd in Toddle. Samen blikken docent en leerlingen vooruit aan de hand van de JdW-planner.
