  • regular verbs: have / has + past participle (= volt. deelwoord)
  • irregular verbs: see the list, 3rd column

- I have lost  my keys. (I still don't know where they are)
-  She has given me a really good idea. (I can still use it)

Function:
  1. Something happened in the past and it is not important when. Ex: Yes, I have done my homework.
  2. Something started in the past and is still ging on. Look for words like: for, since, in
    Ex: I have played padel for three years / since 2020.

4. Something just happened or hasn't happened yet. Look for words like: just, lately, recently, yet.

FUNCTION: To talk about something that you were doing or that was happening at a certain moment in the past.

  • The past simple is then used to describe a shorter activity that interrupts the longer activity, or happens at the same time.
