1. Regular verbs: ww + ed
   NB: - verbs ending with -y (try-tried)
            - verbs ending with a consonant (plan - planned,
               travel - travelled)

Revision Past Simple

Function: To talk about something that happened in the past and is finished.

Signal words: when I was young, last weekend, in 2020, this morning, last Friday, 5 min ago 

Ex: Last night, he watched a great film. 

Past Simple:

Revision Present Perfect

Form:

• regular verbs: have / has + past participle (= volt. deelwoord)
• irregular verbs: see the list, 3rd column

Examples: 

- I have lost  my keys. (I still don't know where they are)

-  She has given me a really good idea. (I can still use it)

Revision Present Perfect

Function:

1. Something happened in the past and it is not important when. Ex: Yes, I have done my homework.
   
2. Something started in the past and is still ging on. Look for words like: for, since, in. 
   Ex: I have played padel for three years / since 2020.

3. It started in the past and you can still see the result. 

Ex: I have lost my keys. / She has cut her hair.

4. Something just happened or hasn't happened yet. Look for words like: just, lately, recently, yet.

Ex. Have you just joined the party? 

Present Perfect:

How to choose between Present Perfect & Past Simple?

1: Is it still going on now?

Yes: present perfect.           No: go to 2

2: Is there a time clause that indicates it happened in the past?

Yes: past simple.                    No: present perfect.

1. They film the event with a hidden camera.
2. They filmed the event with a hidden camera.
3. They have been filming the event with a hidden camera.

Revision Past Continuous

Form:  was/were + verb + -ing

Examples: 

- They were playing tennis at 8 pm yesterday.

-  When you were at football practice, I was helping our sister with her homework.

When do you use the past continuous?

FUNCTION: To talk about something that you were doing or that was happening at a certain moment in the past.

What to do when two things happen at the same time in the past? The activity that has taken more time is always in the past continuous.

For example: When I was taking a shower, the bell rang.
