THE POSSESSIVE S

We use the possessive S after names of people and animals. 

Mickey's ears are funny.

Alexis's room is beautiful.

Single noun  (Enkelvoud)

Her dress is nice.
My sister's dress is nice.

His bike is new.
My brother's bike is new.

(1 brother)

Plural nouns (meervouden)

Their dresses are nice.
My sisters' dresses are nice.

(meerdere zussen)

sisters = MV + eindigt op 's'

DUS: alleen '  (komma)

Their bikes are new.
My brothers'  bikes are new.

More than 1 brother + ends on 's' -> DUS: alleen ' (komma)

meervoud NIET op s  -> 's

These children's books are famous.

The possessive 'of'

We use OF to show possession for objects or locations.

The battery OF my phone is empty.
The capital OF the state.

possessive 'of'

The house has a leaking roof.
The roof of the house leaks.

De schoenen van de kinderen =

De band van mijn auto is lek.
