Prefixes, suffixes, word roots
Terms in veterinary terminology or language in general are composed of various parts. The main part of a word is called the root. Adding something in front or behind the root changes the meaning of the root word.

Adding a letter or a word in front of the root is called prefix
example: preoperative
Adding a letter or word behind the root is called a suffix
example: Glossitis
