There are 4 ways to talk about the future in English:
1. Present continuous
2. To be going to
3. Shall/Will
4. Present simple

Which tenses are future?

1. I will help you tomorrow.
2. I'm playing football on Saturday.
3. I am going to play hockey with my friends this weekend.
4. The train leaves at 18.07 in Nijmegen every day

Regular Present simple form

present tense
Always, never, usually 

Form: 

Full verb with = I, you, we, you they
verb + s with = he, she, it

Present simple examples

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.

Sam is 15 years old.
I often watch TV in the evening.

 

Used for facts, things we know to be true, things that happen often or regularly

He sometimes ____ the bus to school.

The present simple in the future

Something is on a schedule (train/bus/airplane times, opening time of shops etc.)

Form:
1. verb with = I, you, we, you, they
2. verb + s with = he, she, it.

Future: present simple examples

The train leaves at 4 pm from platform 5A every day.

Our school closes at 5 pm on week days.
The dinosaur show at Naturalis starts every ten minutes.

When is football practice for team D3?

Regular present continuous form

Going on right now/at the moment

Form:

am/are/is ( to be) + (verb + ing)

Present continuous examples

I'm watching a film at the moment.

Talking about the future using present continuous

To talk about appointments where the time/place has been set (arrangements)

He is leaving for New Zealand tomorrow.
I'm meeting Susan at the train station.

Future: to be going to

When someone is planning to do something (or not)
A prediction with proof

Form:
am/are/is (to be) + going to + verb

Future: 'to be going to' examples

Look! He is going to fall off his bike!
Look at those dark clouds. It is going to rain. 
I am not going to hike tomorrow. I am too tired to hike.

Future tenses:
"Sorry, I already have plans: I ......... to the beach today"

predictions or decisions made at the moment of speaking

Predictions without proof

Future:  will

In positive sentences we use will

I will come to your party. I promise

This is a decision made at the moment of speaking, or if you make a promise (belofte)

In negative sentence we use won't
will + not = won't
He won't come to school as he is ill.

This is a decision made at the moment of speaking, he might also be better tomorrow and then he will come to school
