Relative pronouns zijn betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden die gebruikt worden om extra informatie te geven over een zelfstandig naamwoord dat eerder in de zin genoemd is. 

De meest voorkomende relative pronouns in het Engels zijn: who, whom, whose, which, en that.

The house which is on the corner is very old.  (which zegt iets over old)

The man who lives next door is a doctor.  (who zegt iets over man)

The book that you gave me is interesting.  (that zegt iets over book)

The artist whose paintings are famous lives in Paris.  (whose zegt iets over artist)
