First conditional

1. Als ik op tijd vertrek, zal ik de bus halen.

2. Als we niet haasten, zullen we daar niet op tijd aankomen.

3. Als je goed leert, zul je een voldoende halen voor de toets.

First conditional

1. If I leave on time, I will catch the bus.

2. If we don't rush, we won't be there on time.

3. If you study hard, you will pass the test.

WANNEER gebruik je het?

De first conditional gebruik je wanneer:

De kans is groot dat iets zal gebeuren als daar iets voor gedaan wordt. (een voorwaarde dus)

Dus bijvoorbeeld:

Als ik op tijd vertrek, zal ik de bus halen.

If I catch the bus, I will catch the bus.

HOE maak je het?

if-sentence 1st conditional

Example:

If you study hard, you will pass the test.

Present simple + will & hele werkwoord

LET OP!

Je kan if-zinnen ook omdraaien.

Voorbeeld:

If you study hard, you will pass the test.

You will pass the test, if you study hard.

WANNEER gebruik je de second conditional

When something is UNLIKELY (onwaarschijnlijk) going to happen, you can use the 2nd conditional.

Examples:
If we won the league, we would have a trophy.

If I were an actor, I would play as Batman.  

HOE maak je de second conditional?

Hoe maak je de 2nd conditional if-sentence?
In de if-zin (de if zin begint bij het woord if tot aan de komma) gebruik je de PAST SIMPLE  en

in de hoofdzin (de hoofdzin begint nooit met een if) gebruik je WOULD + HELE WERKWOORD.

Voorbeeld:

If I were a billionaire, I would live in Barcelona.

LET OP!

Als je in de if-zin TO BE gebruikt, maak je er altijd WERE van, ook bij I en he/she/it.

If he WERE a millionare, he WOULD BUY his personal airplane. 

LET OP!

Je kan if-zinnen omdraaien.

Bijvoorbeeld:

If here we millionaire, he would buy a plane.

He would buy a plane, if he were a billionaire.
