The BIG project
TONIGHT WITH GERRY KELLY

8 week run
Recorded with a live audience
For you, this is a hands-on WORK PLACEMENT

Your duties:
  • Find and pitch content to the production team
  • Research and set up the content (interview)
  • Write questions and provide briefing for Gerry
  • Liaise with internal and external people (eg: show guests, make up, event management students, etc) 
  • Play a hands-on role in the studio recording
  • There will be more...
  • This will involve working late on Wednesday nights for 8 wks

YOU'LL BE WORKING WITH STUDENTS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS IN THE COLLEGE INCLUDING:

Music – who will compose and perform music for the opening and closing titles and the guest walk-on music, stings into commercial breaks, etc; 

Graphics – who will design the ‘Tonight with Gerry Kelly’ logo/branding; 

VFX – who will animate the opening show titles; 

Hair and makeup – for Gerry and guests on the show; 

Event Management – who will be responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the audience - ticket allocation, showing audience members to the studio and into their seats, escorting audience members back out of the building etc; 

Hospitality – catering for studio guests in the Green Room etc., and possibly tea/coffee for audience members before the show; 

Costume – preparing wardrobe for Gerry and any show guests;  etc

THE ASSIGNMENT - Part 1 
A written report, in which you:

  • Research at least 2 studio crew roles and write a report that discusses the purpose of these roles, their responsibilities and how they work individually and together in a disciplined and organised way to produce a successful final product. (U82, LO1)
  • Discuss the technical equipment required to produce a television show and how it operates smoothly. (U82, LO2)
  • Discuss the importance of collaboration as part of a creative media production process (U36, LO1)

You will then help produce the show
  • Participation in the production of TONIGHT WITH GERRY KELLY (U36, LO2) - As part of the production team for this weekly programme, you must participate in all elements as necessary to ensure the successful running of this show.
  • Regular attendance and engagement with this project is vital to ensure you pass the course. This includes working on Wednesday evenings for the programme run.
  • A Production Diary - Throughout this placement you must keep a production diary, detailing your learning every week and
  • The PEARSON THEME ALBERT sustainable Production Certificatio? (The theme for 2022 is Sustainability in Media)

Pearson Theme 2022
This theme explores how film productions can counter climate change and the environment. This is considering the recent COP26 which was held in Glasgow 2021 and the government goals to achieve Net Zero.

  • At the end of your busy work placement, you will have gained much experience that will support you as you move forward in your career. To evidence all you have learned, use your production log and other paperwork.
