For activities/events that happened in the past and have finished.

You know when they happened.

When do you use the Present Perfect?

* When something started in the past bit isn't finished/over yet.

* When you see the result of something that happened in the past now.

I can't run, I have broken my leg. (been is nog steeds gebroken)

I have known my boyfriend for 5 days. (je kent hem nog steeds)

I have been to London six times. (ervaring)

How do you make the  past perfect?

past perfect = had + Past Participle (voltooid dw)

Ik had de film al gezien, maar ik wilde mijn moeder niet teleurstellen, dus heb ik hem nog een keer bekeken.

I had already seen the movie but I didn't want to disappoint my mother so I watched it again.

(notice in Dutch you use "heb bekeken but in English you just use "watched" not "have watched")
