Structure of Muscles








A muscle is attached to the bone with 
tendons (pezen) .

The place where a tendon is attached 
to a bone is called the attachment point.

Muscle contraction








1. When a muscle contracts, it becomes shorter and thicker.

2. By contracting, the muscle pulls on the bone.

3. The muscle pulls the bones towards each other.

4. This creates movement.

Cooperating muscles








In many parts of your body, muscles work together.

An example of this is the muscles you 
use to move your forearm.

The arm bending muscle (biceps) 
and the arm stretching muscle (triceps).

Cooperating muscles
A bending muscle and a stretching muscle that work together to make a movement are called an antagonistic pair.

The stretching muscle is the opposite of the bending muscle.

Antagonists: muscles that work in opposite ways.
