H5 Energy and sustainability

Slide 1 - Slide

Paragraph 1
Energy conversions

Slide 2 - Slide

Learning objectives
You are able to:
  1. Explain how energy is converted.
  2. Show energy conversions in an energy flow chart.
  3. Give the formula and description of gravitational-energy.
  4. Give the formula to calculate the Energy use.
  5. Explain what efficiency means and calculate the efficiency.

Slide 3 - Slide

Converting energy
Energy can be converted from one form to another. Energy is not lost!
You can show energy conversions in a flow chart:

Slide 4 - Slide

Sorts of energy
  • Electrical energy
  • chemical energy
  • radiation energy
  • nuclear energy
  • Gravitational energy
  • Kinetic energy
  • Heat

Slide 5 - Slide

Gravitational energy
Temporarily stored energy that an object has when it's at a certain height. Can be calculated with:

Slide 6 - Slide

Energy and power
The amount of energy that a device converts per second is called the power.

Slide 7 - Slide

Efficiency
The efficiency of a device says something about how much energy is converted to a useful form of energy.

Slide 8 - Slide

Conservation of energy
The law of conservation of energy states useful and non-useful energy together are equal to the total energy used.
Energy is never lost, it is only converted from one form to the other.

Paragraph 2
Energy use at home

Slide 11 - Slide

Learning objectives
You are able to:
  1. Indicate what you can do with 1 kWh of energy
  2. Indicate what you can do at home to use energy more efficiently.
  3. Read energy labels and say something about energy consumption the basis of energy labels.
  4. Using an energy label and the energy price, calculate how much a device costs per year.

Slide 12 - Slide

Cost of energy
At home, energy is measured in kWh.
kilowatt hours

1 kWh kost momenteel
ongeveer €0,33.

Slide 13 - Slide

Saving energy
  • Using more efficient appliances
  • Reduce the use of appliances

Paragraph 3
Generating energy

Slide 16 - Slide

Paragraph 4
Environment

Slide 17 - Slide

Learning objectives
Which environmental impacts you have to take into account in energy production?
  1. Explain by what three options there are to make energy more sustainable.
  2. Give the two substances that are released when fossil fuels are burned.
