A compound noun:
We put two nouns together to make a compound noun.
The first noun describes the second.

- hyphens (or not)
Compound nouns made from two different nouns can be found in three different forms:
Separate
words without a hyphen (eg. car park)
hyphenated words (eg. ice-skating)
made of one word (eg. website)
The only way to be completely sure about what form a compound noun should be is to check in a dictionary.
