Verbs in Finances 



  • (to) invest: to spend money in order to make a profit
  • (to) borrow: to take something for a short time and give back later.
  • (to) save: to keep money to buy something later.
  • (to) owe: to be in a situation where you have to pay money to someone.
  • (to) lend: to give for a short time.
  • (to) spend: to pay money for something.
  • (to) pay: to exchange money for goods or services.
  • (to) earn: to receive money for work (salary) or in payment for a loan.

  • stock: shares in a company.
  • share: part of the capital of a company.   -> stakeholder: person who has shares
  • worth: to have value
  • dividend: a part of a company's profits paid to stockholders, usually once or twice a year.
  • stake: a percentage of the capital of a company.
  • revenue: total income generated by sales of goods and services. 
  • profit: a financial gain (the difference in the amount earned than spent)
  • stock market: the place where company shares are bought and sold.
  • subsidiary: a company that is owned by another company.
  • takeover: the buying of one company by another.

(to) borrow: means to take something from another person (you will get it back)



(to) lend: to give something to another person (expecting to get it back)
