Wanneer alleen Present Perfect
  • Bij dingen die maar één keer gebeurt zijn: John can't walk because he has broken his legs
  • Bij het woord never: I have never seen this film before.
  • Bij nadruk op hoeveel: She has written 5 books so far.


Wanneer alleen Present Perfect Continuous
  • Bij dingen die de afgelopen tijd vaker gebeurdenOur cat has been getting into trouble recently.
  • Bij dingen die nogsteeds actief bezig zijn: We have been watching this film for hours now.

Soms kan het allebei
  • I have lived here for five years now / I have been living here for five years now.
