What does condition mean? (los van conditie/staat)

Twee delen in de zin: 
  1.  'if' part
  2. main part (what will happen)

If you leave now, you will be on time 
You will be on time if you leave now 

Het maakt niet uit welk deel eerst komt. 
Let op: will mag nooit in het if deel staan!

Vier varianten: wij gaan er 2 bekijken:
  1. first conditional : type 1
  2. second conditional : type 2

Elke conditional heeft dezelfde structuur (if-deel en main deel). Alleen het gebruik van de tijden is anders!

 Zero conditional 
vorm:                                     if deel: present simple
                                                 main deel: present simple

Wanneer gebruiken:     het gevolg staat vast/het is een feit

Wanneer gebruiken:   als iets zeer waarschijnlijk gaat gebeuren

Second conditional 
vorm:                                      if deel: past simple
                                                  main deel: would (not) + hele ww

Wanneer gebruiken:      zeer onwaarschijnlijk dat het gaat gebeuren
If Tom knew your phone number, he would call you.
 They would be really happy, if they won the match.
