  • What is a tag-question? Do we use them in Dutch?
  • "Toch?" "Niet?" "Vind je niet?" "Ja toch of niet?"
  • Why do we use them?
  • Positive and negative tag-questions

  • Used after a negative sentence (ontkennende zin):
  • "That isn't true, is it?"
  • "We do not have that, do we?"
  • "They haven't won, have they?"

Used after positive sentences (bevestigende zin):
"We love English, don't we?"
"We have made our homework, haven't we?"
"We will do all of our homework, won't we?"

How to write them?
  • Repeat the form of to-be or the hulpwerkwoorden;
  • Hulpwerkwoorden: can, could, to have, should, shall, will, etc.
  • None of these verbs present? use form of "to do"
  • Repeat the personal pronoun: I, you, he, she, it, we, they, you and there
