1.  Bij plannen die al gemaakt waren vรณรณr het moment van spreken
                      I am going to visit John this afternoon
     (dit stond al gepland voordat je deze zin uitsprak).


2. Als er op het moment van spreken aanwijzingen zijn dat iets in de toekomst gaan gebeuren
                    Look at those dark clouds. It's going to rain
    (de donkere wolken zijn een aanwijzing dat het in de toekomst gaat regenen)

Will & Shall

2 manieren will + hele werkwoord
1. Als je een beslissing neemt (plan maakt) op het moment van spreken.

Bijv. Do you think John is at home? I think I will call him this afternoon. 
         (Op het moment van spreken besluit je om John vanmiddag te gaan bellen)

2. Bij een wens, veronderstelling, belofte, aanbod, verzoek of voorspelling
  
Bijv. He will not be on time, he is always late.                      (= voorspelling)
         Those boxes look heavy, I will help you carry them.    (= aanbod)

Hoe zit het nu tussen will en shall?
  • In vragen kun je will of shall gebruiken.
  • Shall gebruik je alleen met I en we. 
  • Shall wordt vooral gebruikt om te vragen naar een mening, bij voorstellen en om iets aan te bieden. 

bijv.  Will you/he/she/it/they do that?
          Shall we/I do that?
          Shall we go out or stay in?  - (je vraagt naar een mening)
          Shall we go shopping this weekend?  - (je doet een voorstel)
