Extreme adjectives are a way of describing a word (noun) more extremely.

Words like huge, fantastic and awful are sometimes called limit or extreme adjectives. 

Normally, extreme adjectives are not used with very. Instead we use adverbs such as really or absolutely: "It's absolutely awful", not: "It's very awful"
