• Apart from countries in continents which have hosted the world cup the previous two times
• Apart from that there are no other requirements

• Desert climate
• Not good for soccer
• After Qatar was chosen the World Cup was moved to the winter

How many Qatari citizens are there? As many as:

1. Amsterdam
2. Londen
3. Utrecht
4. Addis Abeba

Pre-existing infrastructure

To host the world cup Qatar had to build:

• 9 stadia,
• An airport,
• 100 hotels,
• Roads and infrastructure,
• And a complete city

What happens to the stadia after the World Cup?

• No freedom of press and no freedom of speech
• Homophobia (And no LHBTQI+ rights either)
• Women's rights
• Modern slavery

Homophobia in Qatar

• 7 years in prison for being openly gay in Qatar (This is not the worst case in the middle-east)
• FIFA knew about this
• The FIFA actively supports this

Women's rights

• Women have few rights
• If you are pregnant you need to prove you are married. Otherwise you won't get medical care
• Travel is restricted
• Many other things

Modern Slavery

Kafala systeem

• Migrants from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh
• Looking for work
• They pay up to 4000$ for work in Qatar
• This means they are in debt
• They can pay this back with work

• They often get paid too little to escape debt
• They cannot freely travel
• They cannot change jobs
• Their conditions are awful

Why do I boycot the World Cup?

• FIFA is corrupt
• The choice for Qatar is extremely stupid when looking at sustainability
• Human rights violations
