Grammar: indirect/reported speech
Direct speech
= directly stating what someone said. You use quotation marks for this.
Indirect speech
= retelling what someone has said. Since the sentences have already been spoken this is often in the past tense.
When changing a sentence from direct to indirect speech, you change
the tense
and sometimes
the pronoun
.
