Goal of this class

At the end of this class you are able to:

- understand the present tenses in English

- understand the difference between the Present Simple and the Present Continuous.

- have rewritten your story using the grammar.

Present Simple

Present Simple is used to state/describe facts, habits and routines.

Questions and negations: use 'do' or 'does'.

Present Simple:

When do you use the Present Simple?

1. When something happens always, sometimes, never or regularly.
2. When something is in progress now.
3. When something happened in the past.
4. When something started in the past and is still ongoing.

Present Continuous

Present Continuous is used to describe actions that are going on at this moment + plans in the near future.

Form with: 'am'/'is'/'are' (also in questions (?) and negations (-)).

Example: I am reading; she is teaching; we are learning.

Recognize: 'now', 'look!', 'right now', 'in a minute', etc.

Rewriting the story

Last class you have written a story using at least 20 words from Unit 1 Vocabulary (woorden). 

We are going to rewrite that story using the grammar this time.

Take a look at your story and see where you can implement the grammar we've learned today!

Example

The sun is shining in the sky above the quiet town. Lisa is in a nice café, sitting and enjoying her morning coffee. She always smiles when she's here. Lisa works as a designer and likes the calm feeling in this café.

  

As she drinks her coffee, she looks at a cool design project on her computer. She is making a new logo for a local shop. The design is getting better, and Lisa is happy with it.

Let's give some feedback

Swap your story with your classmate's story and give some feedback. Pay attention to the following:

- Vocabulary: is it clear which words are used from U1?

- Grammar: is the use of Present Simple en Present Continuous correct? 

- Story: is the story clear and readable?

Take notes on what you see. Make sure to be nice to each other!
