Tops - PowerPoint

- Well structured PowerPoints

- Use of keywords

- Images were appropriate / relevant

- Some presentations had no ending (stopped abruptly)

What's missing

Presentations are stories (with signals) waiting to be told!

So tell a story!

 People respond to stories. Everybody creates narratives, it's how we understand the world. Find the story in what you want to say.

How?

- By talking about your experience with the/your topic

- by giving an anecdote

- by making your presentation your own

Goal = captivating your audience

Goal = getting more comfortable speaking

Introduction

KISS - Keep it short and sweet.

(but do stick to time restrictions)

Check if you have added all the mandatory information.

 
This applies to the presentation as a whole and each word you use. Stick to short words and avoid jargon.

Content

- make sure your audience knows the topic you will be discussing

- make sure to signal that you will be moving on to the next part

Use examples.

Keep your points grounded in reality and use everyday experiences that anyone can relate to when explaining complex ideas.

Ending

 The conclusion is where you loop back to your original statement and give the audience some things to think about.
