How do you put a regular verb
in the past tense?

Regular verbs
You put -d or -ed behind the verb. 
lived
asked
played > there is a vowel before 'y' (play)
studied > there is a consonant before 'y' (study)
stopped
With some word the final letter is being doubled. 
Such as: travelled and stopped.

They change and you have to learn them by heart.
