At the end of this lesson you will be able to recognise British and American English in pronunciation and vocabulary

In which countries is English an official language?

Around 60 sovereign countries have English as an official language, such as

the obvious UK, USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

But also South-Africa, Singapore, Philipines, Barbados, Sint Maarten, Kenya, several Caribbean islands.

Do you pronounce the words with an American or English accent?

British:

r - when followed by a vowel sound (klinker) - (at beginning of word) 

   - ring / marry

t - hard t - better (no pronunciation of r)

American:

r - every r in a word - butter

t - sound like d - butter sounds like budder

What is a conjuntion?

Conjunctions are words that link words or sentences together.

Why are conjunctions important?

Conjunctions are the glue that holds sentences together

Conjunctions show the relation between different words to express much greater meaning.
