Understanding Menstruation - Periods

What: We are going to learn about periods - what they are, why they happen and how will have them.

How: We will discuss what we already know. We will watch a video. We will find out new information.

Why: Because about half of the population are female and this affects them. If you are a female you should understand what you will or are dealing with. If you are male you should try to understand what is happening to be understanding and if possible, helpful. 

What is a period?

Do girls or boys get periods?

In this lesson we will be looking at what is commonly known as the ‘female’ reproductive system. 

It is important to recognise that this language is based on biological sex and does not necessarily reflect a person’s gender identity. 

Periods are....

1. when the lining of the uterus breaks down and comes out.
2. when you have a cut in your privates
3. what happens when females have been bad
4. when you have sex

Why does the uterus build its walls?

1. to potentially support a fertlised egg
2. because it looks good

If there is no fertilised egg, what happens to the built up walls of the uterus?

1. They continue to get bigger and bigger.
2. The walls break down and come out, causing bleeding.
3. They pop
