How do we tell the time in Dutch?

Talking about the time

'What time is it?' = hoe je vraagt hoelaat het is

It's three o'clock = het is drie uur

It's four minutes past five = het is vier over vijf

It's quarter past six = het is kwart over zes

It's half past four = het is half vijf (!)

It's quarter to two = het is kwart voor twee

It's ten minutes to eleven = het is tien voor elf

Talking about the time

Bij de grote wijzer op het  eerste halfuur van de klok (van de 12 naar de 6) gebruik je het woordje 'past'

Bij de grote wijzer op het tweede halfuur van de klok (6 naar 12) gebruik je het woordje 'to'

Het is tien over drie
