Comparisons; comparative and superlative
If the word has:..... one syllable
                                .....two syllables ending at -y, -le, -ow, or -er (with the emphasis on the first                                                                                                                                             syllable)
                                   then you use -er and -est

        large- larger- the largest
        small - smaller - smallest
        slow - slower- slowest
        heavy - heavier - heaviest
        yellow- yellower- yellowest

two (80%)  or more syllable words:

perfect - more perfect than  - the most perfect

amazing- more amazing than - the most amazing

expensive - more expensive than  - the most expensive

 With these common two-syllable adjectives, you can either add –er/–r and –est/–st or use more and most:




He is certainly handsomer than his brother.
His brother is handsome, but he is more handsome.
She is one of the politest people I have ever met.
She is the most polite person I have ever met.
