Intro: Although ‘Zwarte Piet’ is one of the oldest Dutch traditions, it should be banned because it is incredibly racist and children do not care about their looks.
BP1: Firstly, and quite obviously, ‘Zwarte Piet’ is just plain racist. (A black face, golden earrings, big red lips, an Afro wig… it is clear that ‘Zwarte Piet’ is a spitting image of an African slave during the European imperialism.)
BP2: Secondly, children do not care what St. Nicholas’ helper looks like, as long as they get their presents. (The debate about ‘Zwarte Piet’ has caused a stir in the Netherlands. Surprisingly, the debate is solely between adults.)
BP3: The most-used argument for the preservation of ‘Zwarte Piet’ is that it is a tradition. This is, however, no reason racism can be allowed.
Conclusion: Concluding, it seems inevitable that the tradition of ‘Zwarte Piet’ is going to have to change.
