Explain why "experience can teach us things we don't learn in school" is or is not a good theme statement.

Slide 6 - Open question

It is a good theme statement.  It expresses an opinion, it is universal / general, not specific to a book.   It is something that people might disagree with.
Explain why "It is important to learn how to trust yourself and others" is or is not a good theme statement.

Slide 7 - Open question

This theme statement is a bit weaker than the previous one, in that it is a statement that people are less likely to disagree with, but is still acceptable, in that there are people who might disagree with it.
Explain why "actions speak louder than words" is a poor theme statement

Slide 8 - Open question

It's a poor theme statement because it is a cliche, something everybody says, and therefore has lost its strength.
Now... write a theme statement based on THUG for the topic "racism and injustice"

Slide 9 - Open question
