The Democrats: Kamala Harris
  • Climate change: Take stricter measures to battle climate change. Supports investments (investeringen) in green energy and wants the U.S. to change and to clean energy sources (bronnen).
  • Healthcare (gezondheidszorg): Wants everyone to have better and more affordable healthcare and plans to make Medicare (a healthcare program) stronger.
  • Education: Harris supports making higher education more affordable (betaalbaar) or free for low-income families and wants more funding (dat er geld gaat) for public schools.
  • Gun Laws: She wants stricter background checks and limits on assault weapons to reduce (verminderen) the number of shootings.
  • Immigration: She supports a kinder immigration policy and believes that undocumented people who have lived in the U.S. for a long time should have a chance to stay legally.

The Republicans: Donald Trump
  • Climate Change: Known for supporting the fossil fuel industry and opposing (tegenspreken) stricter environmental regulations. He withdrew (trok zich terug) from the Paris Climate Agreement during his first term (termijn).
  • Healthcare: Wants to get rid of (wil af van) Obamacare and has pushed for a more market-based (marktgericht) approach to healthcare.
  • Education: Has expressed support for school choice programs, allowing families to choose schools for their children, including private and charter schools.
  • Gun Laws: A strong supporter of the Second Amendment (the right to own guns) and is against stricter gun laws.
  • Immigration: Advocates for strict border security, including building a border wall with Mexico, and wants to limit the number of legal immigrants allowed into the U.S.
