The 'Present Tenses' (Tegenwoordige Tijd) 

Er gebeurt iets in de tegenwoordige tijd.

"I walk to school every day"

"She is a great football player"

"We are listening to music together."

Present Tenses?

Er zijn 2 manieren om de Present te maken. De Present Simple en Present Continuous.

"I walk to school every day"

"She is a great football player"

"We are listening to music together."

Wat is het verschil tussen de twee?

Het kan een groot verschil maken als je de verkeerde tijd gebruikt. Er zijn twee belangrijke dingen die het verschil maken:

• Meaning         (Wat betekent de zin?)
• Form                (Hoe maken we de zin?)

Meaning

Als we de Present Simple gebruiken, praten we over feit, gewoonte en regelmaat:

I walk to school every day. 

The sun always rises in the east.

He likes pizza.   -->  He likes pizza today, tomorrow and right now

Meaning

Als we de Present Continuous gebruiken, praten we over dingen die nu gebeuren of irritaties:

I am walking to school right now. 

He is enjoying this music.

He is shouting all the time!

Welke dingen gebeuren er nu op dit moment? Welke gaan over feit, gewoonte en regelmaat?

He is talking.

She loves that music.

I am a boy.

We are listening to you.

Form

Als we de Present Simple maken hebben we alleen een werkwoord nodig. We voegen een -s toe bij de SHIT-regel:

I walk to school every day. 

The sun always rises in the east.

He likes pizza. 

Form

Als we vragen maken in de Present Simple voegen we 'do' of 'does' (SHIT-rule) toe aan het begin van de zin.  De -s van het werkwoord van de SHIT-regel verplaatst zich. (We never shit twice in one sentence)

Do I walk to school every day?

Does the sun always rise in the east?

Does he like pizza?

Form

Als we ontkenningen maken in de Present Simple voegen we ook 'do' of 'does' (SHIT-rule) toe en 'not' aan het begin van de zin. Again: We never shit twice in the same sentence.

I do not walk to school every day.

The sun does not always rise in the east.

He does not like pizza.

Which one is the correct form?

Which one is the correct form?

Form

Bij de Present Continuous kiezen we eerst tussen am/are/is. Dan voegen we het werkwoord + ing toe. Als het werkwoord eindigt op -e halen we het weg om -ing in de plaats te zetten.

I am walking to school right now. 

He is enjoying this music.

The sun is rising.     (rise)

Form

Als we vragen maken in de Present Continuous zetten we heel simpel am/are/is aan het begin van de zin.

Am I walking to school right now? 

Is he enjoying this music?

Is the sun rising?

Als we ontkenningen maken in de Present Continuous zetten we 'not' tussen am/are/is en het werkwoord.

I am not walking to school right now.

He is not enjoying this music.

The sun is not rising.
