Gebruik

Als iets in het verleden aan de gang was, óf iets speelde zich een langere tijd af in het verleden en werd onderbroken (in combinatie met de past simple).

Past Continuous

Een korte gebeurtenis (past simple) onderbreekt een lange gebeurtenis (past continuous).

1. I was watching television when the doorbell rang.

2. We were playing soccer when it started to rain.

3. I was making a sandwich when I dropped my knife.

Past continuous

Vormen:

Bevestigend: was/were + ww-ing (soms verandert de spelling)

Ontkennend: wasn't/weren't + ww-ing

Vragend: Was/Were + ow + ww-ing

Past continuous	was/were + hele ww + ing	We were waiting for the bus. I was playing basketball.
