Slide 2 - Slide

Ghana:
- Veel kinderen
- lagere levensverwachting
- grote natuurlijke bevolkingsgroei

Engeland:
- grote groep 40 50 ers
- hogere levensverwachting
- Ook sociale bevolkingsgroei
To read a population pyramid, focus on:
  • The shape (expansive, constrictive, or stationary).
  • The size of the base (indicating birth rates).
  • The distribution of males and females.
  • Age groups to understand the population's structure and potential future challenges or growth patterns.
  • By interpreting these elements, you can understand important demographic trends and make inferences about a region's future needs, such as healthcare, education, and workforce planning.

Difference between population density and population distribution

  • Population density : The number of people per square kilometer on average in a given area
  • Population distribution refers to how people are spread out over an area,  where people are concentrated or dispersed

Population density:
This is the number of people per square kilometer in a given area. It indicates how densely populated an area is. You calculate this by dividing the total number of people in an area by the area’s size. For example, if a country has 10 million people and an area of 100,000 km², the population density would be 100 people per square kilometer.

Population distribution:
This refers to how the population is spread out over a given area. It looks at where people are concentrated or dispersed. In a country with uneven population distribution, one area might be very densely populated (e.g., large cities), while another area may be almost empty (e.g., remote rural regions).

Klaar?
